 Causes and consequences of changes in our oceans

Because of global warming and plastic pollution the ocean has been changing, the ocean is rising and getting warmer so fish are dying and the ocean is rising because since it's getting warmer the ice is melting making the sea levels higher.  Also, each year more and more plastic is being dumped into the ocean. This is a problem.

Global warming is a big part of the ocean rising and the earth is getting warmer everywhere even in Antarctica and the Arctic. This is causing the ice to melt into the ocean making it rise. The ocean has been rising for a long time. It rises about one-eighth of an inch per year. If the ocean keeps rising it might flood towns and cities and it will probably stay like that. Soon it's just going to be the ocean and nothing else! So we should do whatever we can to stop climate change.

It's not just the land getting warmer, it's the ocean too. This means that fish and coral reefs are dying, cold-water fish, and warm water fish are too. Because The warm water is turning too hot and the cold water is turning warm. The fish recycle the nutrients they take in, providing the fertilizer seagrass and algae need to grow, so if the fish are dying so are the seagrass and algae.

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest problems in the ocean. Each year about  6 billion tons of plastic goes into the ocean, it is an ongoing problem that only we can fix. 100,000 marine animals die each year because of plastic. Our oceans are becoming less and fewer animals and more and more plastic. Let's say in 2050 when you go fishing you're going to be catching plastic milk bottles instead of fish.

In conclusion please help save our oceans. Just imagine not being able to go swimming because of plastic pollution. Imagine if the world started flooding because of global warming. We can help our environment by putting plastic in a bin and not in our ocean, or not using as many fossil fuels as we are using.

Why flooding causes destruction

Flooding is a natural cause. Flooding can also cause lots of damage to towns, cities, cars, power poles and also people. Flooding can be caused by overflowing rivers, broken dams, storm surges and tsunamis, but the most common flood cause is by too much rain.

Flooding causes a lot of damage, and most times about 40 billion dollars to fix, flooding goes all over the world. When floods occur they often bring sand, dirt and other substances. Those things build up and make the flood higher above ground. The force of the water also pushes things over and carries them in the flood, and those things can knock other things down or carry things with it. Such as, houses, shops, power poles and cars.

Flooding doesn't just destroy things, it also messes the towns or cities up. After a flood it takes a long time to clean up and sometimes lots could die or be injured.

It also means some people don't have anywhere to live.

To reduce this problem we could build a wall to stop the flooding and build some houses on hills.  Most importantly build the towns and cities in a non flood zone, that way everyone can be safe.

In conclusion flooding is a huge problem for people and costs a lot of money.  It leaves a giant mess to clean up and it takes a very long time for the damage to be repaired. It would be great to build out of flooding zones, and have plans if a flood does occur.

 Maddi, Lola, Rosie-bell, Jesse, and Vinnie are walking to Shelby's house to have a TV night.

Maddi: So are you guys ready for tonight's TV night?!

Lola: Yeah! I bought some chocolate!

Rosie-bell: I wonder what the time is? Does anyone have a watch?

Jesse: Umm the time is 7:30pm

Suddenly Vinnie trips over Jesse's shoe and falls onto the concrete head first.

Vinnie: OOF

Lola and Maddi start laughing

Vinnie: It's not funny!!

Maddi: It is so!!

Rosie-bell: Anyway we should keep walking Shelbys expecting us by 8:00pm

They get to Shelby's house and head inside and sit on the couch they all start talking about what they should watch on tv

Shelby: I want to watch Teletubbies and it's my house so I should choose

Vinnie: No the Teletubbies suck!

Jesse: Yeah they do we should watch Brooklyn 99!

Vinnie: Yeah!

Rosie-bell: I think we should watch paranormal caught on camera so we all get nightmares hehe

Lola: We should watch Paranormal Survivor. It's cool and it's dark and it'll be fun!

Maddi: NO I DON'T WANT TO GET NIGHTMARES lets watch Shortland street instead.

Rosie-bell: Hold on we should vote we have to choose something we all want okay

Shelby: Great idea Rosie-bell!

Shelby puts Netflix on and they all start looking at the movies.

Maddi: What if we choose one we all don't want

Jesse: That's stupid

Shelby: ENOUGH THIS IS MY HOUSE SO I GET TO CHOOSE THE MOVIE

Maddi, Vinnie, Jesse, Lola, Rosie-bell: (Mutters) FINE!

Shelby: Good

Shelby chooses Shrek and everyone starts laughing

Lola: Omg Shrek is the best!

Vinnie: I like Shrek

Jesse: Haha this is gonna be awesome!

Rosie-bell: I love Shrek he is so funny

Maddi: This is gonna be the best movie night ever!

Shelby: See I choose the best movies

Rosie-bell: Actually Shrek is kinda a kids movie we should watch something more grown-up

Jesse: Oh come on are we ever going to watch something!

Vinnie: We should watch something funny

Maddi: Nah something hmmm…. ACTION!

Lola: No no no wait yes a scary movie!

Rosie-bell: Yes I love scary

Shelby: NO GUYS THIS IS MY HOUSE I get to choose!

Jesse: Come on Shelby, just because it's your house doesn't mean you get to choose. 

Lola: Yeah Shelby when we had a movie night at Vinnie's house he didn't go It's my house so I get to choose the movie so that doesn't mean you can do it!

Vinnie: Yeah come on Shelby this is unfair

Rosie-bell: Yeah Shelby you're just being selfish

Maddi: Actually Shelby is right it is her house…

Lola: WHAT Maddi 

Jesse: Maddi come on seriously

Shelby: You know what guys why don't you just go to one of your guy's houses instead

Vinnie: Actually my parents are at a party

Lola: And I don't want to go home because Caspers being annoying

Rosie-bell: I can't go home because my mum and dad are at work

Jesse: I can't go home because my dad is away and my mum is sick and she said I shouldn't annoy her

Shelby: Oh well um…

Maddi: Ok guys we are going to find a movie that suits all of us I have had enough with all this

Maddi: Ok Shelby can you search up funny action movies that aren't for kids

Shelby: I guess

Shelby searches that up on Netflix and it comes up with lots of 13+ shows

Shelby: Are you guys allowed to watch 13+?

Lola: Yup

Jesse: Yes

Maddi: I guess

Rosie-bell: Obviously

Vinnie: Yes

Shelby: Good now let's try to find a movie

Shelby: Oh wait I just have to finish some homework I´ll be right back

Vinnie: Ok…

Lola: Ugh Shelby always Just has to do something

Maddi: Yeah but you know what Mrs. Snitzel is like

Jesse: Yeah…

Rosie-Bell: We should just look through the movies real quick

Vinnie: Ok 

Lola: Oh Oh Oh that one looks cool

Jesse: You mean… The wiggles?

They all go to Shelby's room and ask her

Lola: Hey Shelby we found a movie its called Grown ups

Shelby: Cool let's watch it

Jesse: Finally!!

Vinnie: Wow its almost 9:00pm already jeez did we take that long

Why we should ban pastic

Why we should ban plastic

There is tons of plastic in the world, why do we need all this plastic? It just sits there in landfills blowing away into oceans and lakes. People just think that all the plastic will just break down, well it doesn't it just turns into smaller and smaller pieces.

Millions of tons of plastic are dumped into landfills each year, but what does it do? Well once the plastic is in the landfills it either blows away or it just breaks down into tiny pieces that go into the soil and water. It can take up to 1000 years to break down plastic. 

Every year 8 million metric tons enter our ocean, that's a lot just think of all the animals that die each year because of eating plastic bags or getting stuck in plastic bottle holders. Over one million sea animals die each year because of our plastic. 

Out of the 8.3 billion metric tons that have been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons have become plastic waste. That's only nine percent recycled. That means that the rest of the plastic is out either in our oceans, lakes or just blowing around.

Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced each year and 50% is single-use only used for several hours or days only and then is on the earth for at least several hundred years.

Plastic is a very big problem for our environment. It is polluting our oceans, rivers and it's taking over our land. It's probably even in the dirt that is under the grass on your school field or your front lawn and you don’t even know. We need to stop plastic in general, not just plastic bags or plastic bottles but every single plastic. This is a big problem and it's hard to believe but we made this problem so now we have to fix it back to the way it was.
