Kupe

Kupe
Walt: Learn about Kupe

Kupe was a great chief of Hawaiki (Tahiti), whose father was from
Rarotonga, and whose mother was from Rangiatea (Ra'iatea), where
her father lived. These were the three islands over which Kupe’s
mana (power) extended. One day Kupe's fishermen went out with
lines and hooks to their traditional fishing grounds.

Kupe was a man who sailed to New Zealand on a waka and named
New Zealand Aotearoa. Te Pehi Kupe’s portrait, painted in England
in 1824, shows an elaborately tattooed man aged about 30; from this
portrait, his date of birth has been estimated in 1795.

Camping in hokianga

Camp
On Wednesday the 21st of November room 5, 6 and a few kids from room 10 went on camp. First, we went to the Wairere Boulders to have a look at them. While we were there me and my best friend Ruby found 7 fairy houses.

When we left Wairere Boulders we went to the Marae and had a powhiri then we set up the mattresses and put our bags in the wharenui.

An hour later we went to the Lookout and went to a small beach to sketch the horizon. When we got back to the Marae we played for a little bit then we had dinner we had a sausage sizzle. For dessert, we had a banana split.

Soon we had a disco. After we did that we went to bed. The next day we woke up and had breakfast then got dressed then we went to the ferry and went across to the sand dunes and sandboarded into the water.

Then we went to Tane Mahuta, he was so cool then we sketched him. Soon we went back to Marae and played before we had dinner. We had hamburgers and for dessert, we had peaches and custard.

When dinner was over we had a scavenger hunt but people kept moving the answers after that we played three rounds of spotlight then we went to bed.

The next day we packed up and loaded our stuff into the vans and trailers and went to the clendon house it was cool after we went onto a vehicle ferry and went home. Wow, that was the best camp ever. By Lola Mikrut.
